What this course is about

This course centres on the role of Public Relations (PR) and its contribution to the overall image of a corporation. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of the concept of PR and why companies require PR. The course also addresses communication objectives, strategy development and the formulation and implementation of PR campaigns for attaining client objectives. Other areas covered in this course include organising PR events sponsorship, the importance of building media relationships and the role of public relations agencies.

Who should attend and why

This course is for anyone who is new or experienced in the corporate communications or public relations field. It can work as a fresh perspective and a good refresher course. This course enables you to have a clearer insight into the world of the corporate communication and some of the techniques and principles used.

Course Details

The IAS Public Relations course comprises of seven (7) sessions, held once a week in the evening (7 – 10 p.m.). The programme syllabus comprises of the following topics:

• PR Overview and Introduction
• Why do companies need PR
• Communication Objectives
• Writing for PR
• Timing in PR
• Media and Media Relations
• PR Evaluation

Participants will be given a Campaign Brief during the first (introductory) session of the course from which during subsequent sessions, they will be taught the relevant skills needed to complete the project. Participants may also be handed assignments during each session to apply their knowledge gained during the course, leading to the formulation of their ideas and presenting the project at the final session.
