The IAS Portfolio School - Craft Skills: Art Direction
What this course is about
The IAS Art Direction course has been designed to provide an understanding of principles of art direction and layout. The course seeks to explore how the various functions of an advertising campaign operate through the framework of visual communication and theories relating to the visual context. Course participants will learn to develop various techniques for visualising ideas, including illustration, photography, typography, digital imaging and art directing for television.
The key learning objective of this course is to understand and appreciate the principles of art direction in a commercial environment.
Who should attend and why
Aspiring art directors within the Advertising and related Marketing Communication industries, as well as Junior Art Directors who wish to upgrade their craft skills. The course is taught by industry practitioners who possess vast experience in their respective areas of specialisation. This is an opportunity for those who wish to interact with and experience ‘first-hand’, as to how the experts work at their craft.
Course Details
The IAS Art Direction course comprises of seven (7) weekly evening sessions (7 – 10 p.m.). The programme syllabus comprises of the following topics:

- Digital Imaging in Advertising
- Art Direction in Television
